Mayor Arya Rajendran has said that the rumours circulating about the evacuation of the rest house at the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation SAT Hospital are false. The mayor also said he would take legal action against those trying to insult the municipality and the mayor by spreading fake news.
Controversy has erupted over the evacuation of a rest house for patients. The table and chairs kept in the rest house were removed because some people had illegally occupied the building. The building was then vacated by the mayor and a standing committee officer. But it was widely rumoured that the drugs were stored in the same building by the government or other drug organisations. The pharmacy at SAT Hospital was closed by the municipality to help the monopolies.
The mayor said the municipality found that an employee of the Health Education Society, which works at the hospital, was behind the campaign. The same person had told patients and others that they could not take medication because the building was closed.
Police and the Health Care Department have been instructed to take action against the employee.
