He said the Center and the Union Territories would continue to provide the vaccine free of cost from the Centre’s 50 per cent quota. He was responding to objections to the pricing of the third phase vaccination. He said that under the new policy, states would have complete freedom to purchase and price vaccines from manufacturers.
According to the revised policy, the COVID vaccine will be available to all over the age of 18 from May 1. According to Harsha Vardhan, the states have demanded transparency in the pricing of vaccines and opportunities for pricing. Accordingly, the remaining 50 per cent quota will be left open for them. He explained that this would allow accurate pricing of vaccine doses and avoid delays. According to Harsha Vardhan, the decision to liberalize the vaccine distribution policy was taken with the states in mind. He added that the vaccine would not be given directly to anyone from the quota received by the central government and would be distributed only through the states.
